Staging War Horse Exhibition

Staging War Horse is a new exhibition which, for the first time, tells the full behind-the-scenes story of the creation of War Horse. It takes visitors through each stage of the production process in detail using designs, costume, models, puppets and film.

From the earliest rehearsal images, reviews from the very first press night, technical drawings and interviews with the creative team, to shadow puppetry activities, costume displays and Handspring puppets flown in specially from South Africa.

In October 2007 War Horse had its first performance in the Olivier Theatre, the culmination of a process that began nearly two years before, involving every production department in the National Theatre and a ground breaking collaboration with the Handspring Puppet Company. Since that opening night the play has gone on to become an international success - this unique (and free) exhibition charts the journey of the production from the first early workshops.
